Our Child ADHD Assessment Process
Our Children’s ADHD assessment process is designed to be straightforward, supportive and clinically robust. We aim to make the experience as stress-free as possible for both the child and their family, ensuring you feel confident in each stage
Step 1
INITIAL
SCREENING
Once you contact us, we begin with a free screening questionnaire. This includes the SNAP IV (Swanson, Nolan, and Pelham Rating Scale), which helps us evaluate whether a full assessment is appropriate. We’ll also ask for some background details to understand your child’s behaviours and experiences better.
Step 2
FULL
ASSESSMENT
If a full ADHD assessment for children is recommended, we’ll book a session at a time that works for your family. Assessments can be completed remotely via Microsoft Teams or in person if you are local to Doncaster.

Each assessment lasts approximately 90 minutes and is conducted by a qualified clinician, with an additional specialist observing. We follow NICE guidelines and use validated tools such as the DIVA-5 (adapted for children) and additional developmental history reviews to ensure a complete picture.
Step 3
DIAGNOSTIC REPORT & FOLLOW-UP
After the assessment, we prepare a detailed report—typically 11 to 13 pages—outlining the findings, rationale for diagnosis or non-diagnosis, and personalised recommendations.

Every family receives a free follow-up consultation to discuss the results. Should the diagnosis not be ADHD, we will help you explore other potential causes and available support options
Recognising ADHD Symptoms in Children
Understanding what ADHD looks like in children can be challenging, as every child behaves differently. However, there are some common signs that could indicate the need for a Children’s ADHD assessment :

-
Persistent inattention (e.g. difficulty staying focused, forgetfulness, careless mistakes)
-
Hyperactivity (e.g. fidgeting, trouble staying seated, constant movement)
-
Impulsivity (e.g. blurting out answers, interrupting, risk-taking)
-
Struggles with time management and organisation
-
Frequent daydreaming or emotional outbursts
-
Behaviour that is disruptive at home or school
If these behaviours occur consistently over time and interfere with your child’s education or relationships, it’s worth seeking professional advice.
Our team is experienced in recognising how ADHD manifests across different ages and developmental stages. We take into account environmental, emotional, and social influences when completing each ADHD assessment for children.

Benefits of Early ADHD Diagnosis
Early diagnosis can transform a child’s life. It helps families understand the root of their child’s challenges and enables schools to offer appropriate support.
Here are some key benefits of early identification:

-
Tailored Learning Support: A formal diagnosis allows schools to provide accommodations and interventions that support academic success.
-
Improved Self-Esteem: When children understand why they behave a certain way, it can reduce feelings of frustration or failure.
-
Strengthened Family Relationships: Parents and siblings often gain insight that leads to better communication and reduced conflict.
-
Access to Appropriate Therapies: An early diagnosis opens the door to behavioural therapy, emotional coaching, and support strategies tailored to your child’s needs.
At Private ADHD Assessment, we believe that early intervention is key. Our Children’s ADHD assessments are designed to give you the clarity and tools you need to support your child from the outset.
