ADHD assessment for adults

If difficulties with attention, organisation, restlessness or impulsivity are affecting work, relationships or everyday routines, an assessment can help explore what is happening. We consider your current experiences alongside childhood history, mental health and the impact across different parts of your life.

The assessment is a clinical evaluation; a screening score alone does not establish ADHD. The outcome may be an ADHD diagnosis, advice about other explanations, or a recommendation for further assessment. You can begin with our free adult screener.

ADHD assessment for children and young people

Our child pathway is for ages 7–17. We work with parents or carers to understand development, learning, routines and everyday difficulties, while hearing the young person’s own experiences in an age-appropriate way.

Information from home and school helps show how difficulties vary across settings. Please provide relevant questionnaires, school information and previous reports where available. If a school report or childhood record is missing, contact us before the appointment so we can explain what evidence may be needed.

The written report explains the findings and recommendations for home, education and next steps. Decisions about school provision or NHS treatment remain with the relevant organisation.

ADHD assessments for people in Lincolnshire

Adults and families in Lincolnshire can choose a private ADHD assessment by secure video or travel to our Doncaster clinic. The same £595 assessment fee applies. Our child service is for ages 7–17 and our adult service is for ages 18 and over.

Our reports can be submitted for review through the relevant Lincolnshire NHS pathway. Acceptance for review does not automatically mean acceptance of the diagnosis, NHS treatment, prescribing or shared care. The receiving service makes its own clinical decision and may request more information or further assessment.

Adult and child referral routes differ. Before booking, ask your GP or receiving NHS service how to arrange a report review, what evidence they need and which local pathway applies to you or your child.

Face-to-face in Doncaster or online

Doncaster appointments: Our clinic is at Gresley House, Ten Pound Walk, Doncaster, DN4 5HX. People travelling from South Yorkshire and Lincolnshire attend this Doncaster location.

Online appointments: Secure video assessments are also available for adults and children. Choose the video option when booking. A quiet, private space and a reliable connection help you take part; let us know if you are unsure whether an online appointment would suit your needs.

What happens during the assessment?

1. Prepare. Complete the requested questionnaires and gather relevant developmental, school or medical information. Tell us about any support you need to participate.

2. Meet your clinician. Your booked assessment appointment is two hours. We explore symptoms, development, everyday impact, mental health and other possible explanations, drawing on information from relevant settings. Our approach is aligned with NICE guidance on ADHD.

3. Understand the outcome. The full process includes reviewing the information and preparing your written report. Your report explains the findings and recommendations. The assessment does not guarantee a diagnosis or medication.

The full adult or child ADHD assessment is £595, whether you choose face-to-face in Doncaster or video. The assessment includes a clinical evaluation, written report and recommendations for next steps.

Medication, titration and GP shared care

If ADHD is diagnosed, medication may be considered after a separate prescribing review. Suitability depends on clinical need, health history, risks and the necessary physical checks. Medication is not appropriate for everyone.

Titration means adjusting treatment while reviewing benefits, side effects and monitoring information. If medication becomes stable, a shared-care request may be made with your consent. Your GP decides whether to accept it; some practices decline private shared care. A private diagnosis does not guarantee NHS prescribing.

If your GP declines, we can discuss available private review and prescribing options where clinically appropriate, including ongoing costs. People outside Doncaster should check report acceptance and prescribing arrangements with their GP and local NHS service before booking.

Can I book from South Yorkshire or Lincolnshire?

Yes. You can choose an appointment at our Doncaster clinic or a video assessment. Select the correct adult or child service and attendance option when booking.

Do I need a GP referral?

You can book privately without a GP referral. Our free adult and child screening forms can help you consider whether a full assessment may be appropriate; they do not provide a diagnosis.

Can my child be assessed online?

Video appointments are listed for children aged 7–17 as well as adults. Contact us before booking if you have concerns about your child taking part online or need advice about adjustments.

Will my GP or local NHS service accept the report?

Acceptance varies by GP practice and NHS service. A detailed report supports their review but cannot guarantee acceptance, treatment or shared care. Check with your local service before booking, particularly if you live outside Doncaster.

Does £595 include ADHD medication?

No. £595 is the diagnostic assessment fee. Any medication review, titration, prescription arrangements and treatment costs are separate and depend on clinical suitability.

What if I do not have school reports?

Tell us what information is available before your appointment. We can discuss other sources of developmental and observer evidence. Your clinician decides whether the evidence is sufficient or more information is needed.
